Catherine Lima has sung on the London jazz circuit since 2001. Born in Chiswick, she spent her early years in the north of England and then in Spain, and trained for eight years in musical theatre before an invitation to sing with pianist Pete Churchill drew her into jazz. She has since appeared at the Vortex, the Pheasantry, the 606 Club and Ronnie Scott’s. Lima is a vocalist, songwriter and self-described jazz storyteller who has released two albums, Stories and Lies and The Allure of Miss Lee, and written four shows: The Allure of Miss Lee, Peggy’s Got the Blues, Love Letter to Broadway and The Beat Goes On. Her Peggy Lee shows have sold out at Ronnie Scott’s more than once, and Holly Foster Wells, Peggy Lee’s granddaughter, said her version of “The Folks Who Live on the Hill” was “not at all an imitation” and captured “the essence of Peggy Lee.” She draws on influences from Anita O’Day and Ella Fitzgerald to Joni Mitchell, Patricia Barber and Barbra Streisand, and sings with two big bands, the John Ongom Big Band and MOJO. London Jazz News called one of her Broadway shows “a very fine evening.” She also designs and delivers jazz workshops for primary schoolchildren through the National Jazz Archive. An optional 2-course supper (except Big Band Sundays) is available but must be booked, vegetarians & others with dietary requirements will be accommodated if requested when reserving.
