Michel Benita is one of the most original and versatile bassists in the field; Rita Marcotulli has long been internationally recognised as an icon of Italian jazz; Andy Sheppard continues to stretch and explore the possibilities of free-flowing melodic improvisation. ‘All my life I’ve just been trying to play the right note at the right time, in tune,’ Sheppard explains. ‘And to play the note that actually kind of pings out of my horn and nails someone – you know, they think ‘Wow’, they’re moved by that, I was moved by that, something happened…With this trio, I believe in this music, I’ve found a new vehicle for my music, even with old friends – I’m making them hear new things…in me – and we’re discovering it together.
