Andre Canniere is an American trumpet player and composer based in London. Since moving to the UK over 10 years ago, Canniere has released three critically acclaimed albums on the Whirlwind Recordings label. In addition to his work as a bandleader, Canniere has been involved with a number of eminent bands including Dee Byrne’s Entropi, Henrik Jensen’s Followed by Thirteen and the London Jazz Orchestra. Other British-based artists he has collaborated with include Alice Zawadzki, Michael Janisch, Lizzy Emeh, Jasper Hoiby, Phil Robson, Alex Garnett, Lizzy Parks, Nao and Stan Sulzman.

Canniere is the leader of The Darkening Blue, a London based jazz ensemble that he started in October 2015. The band was formed out of a desire to connect music with written word, the initial inspiration being two of his literary heroes – Charles Bukowski and Rainer Maria Rilke. In October 2016, the band’s first album was released to widespread critical acclaim followed by a successful Arts Council England supported tour.

Another ambitious step for trumpeter Andre Canniere and a very classy sextet… Canniere’s range-spanning trumpet and bright runs, and Freestone’s sensitivity to spacing and dramatic narrative accompany Beraha’s impassive eloquence with the lyrics… Canniere’s instrumentals confirm his jazz-composing power and constructive writing for improvisers. The band is terrific
