A big band show with a difference, The Great Drum Show pays homage to the great drummers of the big band era, the masters of jazz, as well as featuring more recent work associated with legendary pop and studio drummers. Unforgettable swing era star names like Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich, modern jazz pioneers including Philly Joe Jones, Tony Williams and Shelly Manne, as well as more recent legends including Phil Collins and Steve Gadd: even Ringo Starr gets an honourable mention. Music is interspersed with commentary, anecdotes and history giving the show a broad, entertaining appeal that extends beyond the jazz/big band aficionado.
