Sally Doherty/Paul Kilvington Duo + Kev Holbrough/Jamie Taylor Duo DOUBLE BILL @ Jazz at The Lescar
A double bill of two intimate and perfectly balanced duos, and a really special evening of music. Vocalist Sally Doherty and pianist Paul Kilvington bring a shared love for Latin American music, and an evening of songs from South America performed in their original languages of Portuguese and Spanish, with influences from latin, jazz and folk music. A singer with a subtle and nuanced approach, Sally Doherty has released 12 albums, and performed all over the world, as well as writing and performing for BBC drama and short films, touring Europe with Italian band Planet Funk, featuring on Richard Hawley’s “Lady’s Bridge” album and working with electronic artist Scanner. Pianist Paul Kilvington combines a rhythmic sense and powerful technique with a knack for finding the unexpected and surprising twists in his improvisations. Leader of popular latin jazz group Amazonia in the 90s, he has worked with Sally for many years, and together they’ve performed at jazz festivals in Manchester, Marlborough, Wigan and across the UK. Music played with knowledge, delicacy, and simpatico understanding. “She invests a bossa nova with deep feeling…a command of timing and general exquisiteness” Manchester Evening News “Her voice has a bell-like clarity with impeccable pitch and diction.
