Jim Mullen and Nigel Price Quartet @ Jazzlive at The Crypt
Two of the great names in British jazz guitar come together for a special night at The Crypt. Jim Mullen’s place in UK jazz history is firmly established. Instantly recognisable for his distinctive sound and effortless command of the instrument, he has been a major presence on the scene for decades. His many honours include a special Honorary Parliamentary Jazz Award in 2017, reflecting the esteem in which he is held by musicians, audiences, and the wider jazz community. Alongside him is Nigel Price, one of the most admired guitarists of his generation and winner of ‘Best Guitarist’ in the 2026 British Jazz Awards. A player of formidable drive, invention, and swing, Nigel has appeared on more than 50 albums, spent ten years with acid jazz outfit The Filthy Six, performed as part of James Taylor’s jazz-funk band, and made over 600 appearances at Ronnie Scott’s. Both guitarists know The Crypt well, having performed here many times over the years, and their return promises the kind of close-up, high-energy jazz the venue was made for. Completing the line-up are two outstanding players: Joel Barford on drums and Conor Chaplin on double bass. With four musicians of this calibre on stage, expect a night of sparkling interplay, hard-swinging grooves, spontaneous exchanges, and more than a little mischief. “At an age where many musicians might start to slow down, Jim just keeps on going; out there night after night, serving the tune and improvising at the highest level” — UK Jazz News
