Harry Diplock – Guitar – Guitar – Violin – Double Bass “One of the brightest stars on the London gypsy jazz scene.” Pizza Express Jazz Club “Each live show is an exciting improvisational showcase.” — Harry Diplock Harry Diplock is currently credited as being at the forefront of Django Reinhardt-inspired jazz in the UK. Inspired by the Parisian jazz scene, his passion for the music is infectious and his versatility simply astounding. Harry started his journey in his bedroom in Devon, obsessively working out the complexities of Django’s music. He came to London as a guitar builder and was rapidly absorbed into the UK jazz scene as a brilliant guitarist. He has since played at many of London’s foremost jazz clubs, including Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express, Soho Jazz Club and the 606 Club, as well as European venues such as Le Duc des Lombards and Torino Jazz Club. Harry is also an educator and co-founder of The London Django Collective, and has shared the stage with many greats including Antoine Boyer, Paulus Schäfer, Olli Soikkeli, Mathieu Chatelain and Joe Webb. It has taken over 18 months for Harry to find a space in his diary to play for us again. He is simply wonderful. Lucky us. Django Reinhardt (1910–1953) Django was a Romani Belgian jazz guitarist who lived a stormy and dramatic life, famously losing the use of his third and fourth fingers in a caravan fire at the age of 18. Undeterred, he set aside the violin and banjo and concentrated on guitar. Sadly, like many brilliant musicians, his life was short — he collapsed after playing at a Paris nightclub at the age of 43. But his legacy lives on through his music, and his extraordinary musicianship still inspires musicians and audiences alike, decades after his passing. So join us for an uplifting exploration of this heady, enthusiastic genre — a concert guaranteed to have your toes tapping and your soul smiling. Please book early to guarantee a seat.
