Composed with nothing but manuscript paper and pencil, the trio’s set captures wide-open horizons and restless adventure, blending lyricism with fearless improvisation. The second set belongs to Mark Lockheart’s new trio, Shapeshifter . Known for pushing British jazz forward, Lockheart and his band shift fluidly through jazz, rock and free improvisation, mixing original music with bold takes on Bill Frisell and Joe Henderson .
