While much of Coltrane’s reputation rests on his groundbreaking and exploratory work, the 1963 recording with Johnny Hartman revealed another side of his artistry — tender, romantic, and deeply expressive. Widely regarded as one of the finest vocal jazz albums ever recorded, it remains a landmark recording more than sixty years after its release. This special performance forms part of a wider tour marking the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane’s birth, culminating at St George’s Bristol on September 23rd — Coltrane’s actual centenary and the autumn equinox.
