It’s two years since Carioca Soul brought their infectious Latin exuberance to the Club. Inspired by the classic sounds of Sergio Mendes and Brasil ’66, the band draws on bossa nova, samba and modern Brazilian music, combining them with original material and soulful arrangements. The result is an uplifting, danceable sound that has been wowing audiences since the band’s formation in 2019. Led by pianist/musical director/composer Wayne Pollock, the band is fronted by two of Yorkshire’s best known jazz vocalists, Kate Peters and Jenny Smith, with John Marley (bass), John Settle (drums) and Rowan Oliver (percussion). £12. Not many jazz clubs can claim to have promoted jazz fifty nights a year for forty years. Dennis Hitch, Bob Walker and Mike Gordon, the original trio, were just looking for somewhere to play and that’s how Scarborough Jazz started.
