Byron Wallen @ 606 Club
Saturday 28th February 2026 – 9:00 pm Music Charge: £22.00 Book Now Trumpeter, composer and educator Byron Wallen ’s creative mind and constant quest for discovery have seen him work with the likes of George Benson & Chaka Khan in countries as varied as Morocco, Nigeria, Indonesia, Syria, South Africa and Eastern Europe. Inspired by his travels his music has been commissioned by a plethora of highly-regarded organisations, culminating in his receiving the prestigious Paul Hamlyn Award for Artists in 2017. Following the acclaimed series of performances dedicated to the brilliant US jazz pianist and composer Andrew Hill, whose quintet Byron played in until Hill’s death in 2007, Byron now leads the project into thrilling new territory. This refreshed quartet retains the exploratory essence and spiritual lineage of Hill’s visionary work but channels it entirely through a lens of vibrant original compositions, utilising Hill’s harmonic daring and rhythmic freedom to forge a compelling contemporary sound. Joined by a stellar lineup of London’s most dynamic and inventive players: Danny Piers -piano, Kobe Heath Ngugi -bass & Sacha Harlan -drums, together they create music that is both a tribute to a master and at the same time a bold statement of its own identity. As Byron says “It’s the sound of a legacy being lived and evolved, not merely revisited”. “One of the most innovative, exciting and original trumpet players alive” Jazzwise; “Wallen’s…performance…was an enthralling celebration” , Resident Advisor; “Trumpeter Byron Wallen, a British Don Cherry for his nomadic world-musical assimilations…” Guardian Photo by Sebastien Huste
