Simon Bates played recently at Digby’s in the Jazz Centre alongside Derek Nash, performing the music of Gerry Mulligan and Paul Desmond. The gig was so successful and so impressed were we by his beautiful tone and melodic fluency that we have invited him back with his own quartet. This time around he teams up with guitarist Dave Warren following the example of the Paul Desmond quartet he formed with Jim Hall, recording five studio albums together. Dave Warren is recognised as a superb accompanist and accomplished leader in his own right, much in demand, playing regularly at Ronnie Scott’s with his own quartet.
