Daryl Sherman is far more than just a singer-pianist – she’s a musical institution/ new-age jazz legend– and has completed almost fifty years as America’s greatest and most well-loved source of enjoyment of the great American (and British) songbooks. There are echoes of the late Blossom Dearie in (some of) her work, but her repertorial choices are wider and her good humour and sheer enjoyment of her art form more evident. In recent years she has made the rounds of all the US jazz festivals (including New Orleans) as well as appearing regularly at New York’s most celebrated venues including ‘Mezzrow’s’ – often in the company of guitarist James Chirillo and other premier associates. Admission is free, with a retiring collection.
