Blue Note Records are designed to serve the uncompromising expressions of hot jazz or swing. Direct and honest hot jazz is a way of feeling, a musical and social manifestation” Performing the music made famous by Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers . The group was formed in 2012 by Stevie Smith to challenge and inspire like-minded musicians. The band play with honesty, integrity and authenticity. The compositions and transcriptions of Benny Golson, Kenny Dorham, Bobby Timmons, Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, Hank Mobley and others are respectfully re-created. The musical repertoire is part of an ever expanding library and reflects Art Blakey’s The Jazz Messengers recorded output between 1947-1990.
