About

The Snowdrop Inn was named to commemorate the Lewes Avalanche of 1836, one of the worst natural disasters in British history.

Since 2009 The Snowdrop Inn has been run by Dominic McCartan & Tony Leonard, who also run the Roebuck Inn in the nearby village of Laughton. The Snowdrop has a somewhat checkered history, having achieved legendary status in the 1990s under the stewardship of Sue and Tim May when Herbie Flowers, Arthur Brown and Lene Lovich all performed here and John Peel numbered it among his favourite pubs.

The glory days were followed by a decline and rapid management changes under the neglectful owners, Punch Taverns, until Dominic & Tony purchased the pub and brought it back to the heart of the local community. They took full advantage of its return to freehouse status by building a unique portfolio of beers and wines and developed an ethical and environmentally-friendly sourcing policy working in partnership with many other small businesses in the area.

The Snowdrop Inn is family-friendly, welcomes dogs and we have two pub gardens to enjoy when weather allows. We have a full programme of events including live music most Saturday and Jazz every Monday. Every year, we hold a beer festival curated by Burning Sky head brewer, Mark Tranter, as part of Lewes OctoberFeast’s annual celebrations. We are proud to be the headquarters of South Street Bonfire Society and every August we stage South Street Sports Day and Fun Dog Show, followed in the evening by Alternative Miss Snowdrop, a tradition we have revived from the 90s.

We have an extensive range of beers with an emphasis on Sussex brewers, ably supported by the best small brewers from further afield, and a daily changing menu incorporating wonderful local ingredients. All our meat is free-range and we offer an extensive choice of vegetarian dishes. Food is served all day between 12 noon and 9pm Monday to Saturday, and 12 noon until 6pm on Sundays.
