BIRMINGHAM JAZZ & BLUES FESTIVAL

 

ConnectsMusic is thrilled to share this upcoming jazz festival, taking place in Birmingham, with all jazz lovers! Join them this July to celebrate 40 years of Birmingham Jazz and Blues Festival with FREE live music over two weekends!

 

For two toe-tapping weekends, Friday 19th – Sunday 21st & Friday 26th – Sunday 28th July, they will have a variety of different jazz acts performing at various times all across the building.

 

Whether you’re a fan of slow jazz, swing, smooth or blues, they’ve got something for everyone to enjoy, so be sure to come along and enjoy all the good vibes and even better music!

LIVE JAZZ SCHEDULE

 

FRIDAY 19TH JULY

 

3 Play – performing from 6.30pm – 8.30pm at The World Bar.

 

A jazz band that plays contemporary smooth jazz by the likes of Bob James, Fourplay and Jeff Lorber, plus their own originals
Swing Cafe – performing from 9:30pm – 11:30pm at Sports Bar (Resorts World Casino)

 

Led by popular Midlands singer Billie Baker, Swing Café is a swing and jazz band devoted to playing the best-loved songs of the era from the 1920s to the 1950s. Fine melodies mix with a sound that keeps you on the sunny side of life.

 

Please note as Sports Bar is located inside Resorts World Casino it is strictly over 18s only and Challenge 25 is in operation.

 


 

SUNDAY 21ST JULY

 

Sheila Waterfield Quartet – performing from 12:30pm – 2.30pm at The World Bar

 

 

Sheila is a UK-based vocalist, composer and band leader with a style that draws upon jazz, blues, soul and Latin influences.

 

Jo Baldwin – performing from 5pm – 7pm at Sky Bar & Restaurant

 

For most of her career, Jo Baldwin has been lead singer with a number of groups, known for her ability to engage an audience. In 2018 she set up the Jo Baldwin Project, made up of musicians who have spent their careers touring the globe. The result: an unforgettable atmosphere!

 


 

FRIDAY 26TH JULY

 

Hokum & Hooch – performing from 2pm –4pm at Miss Macaroon

 

 

Hokum & Hooch are a bluesy duo created by Rikki Hansel & Rebecca Hallworth. Hokum & Hooch take you back in time to where the Blues began. A journey of timeless classics, forgotten songs, sad & funny stories all the way to contemporary blues & original pieces.

 

Slide Boy Roy – performing from 6:30pm – 8:30pm at The World Bar

 

Slide Boy Roy is an experienced four-piece blues and roots rock ‘n’ roll band which, from a West Midlands base, plays all over the country.

The Mighty Howlers – performing from 9:30pm – 11:30pm at Sports Bar (Resorts World Casino)

 

The Mighty Howlers are a four-piece, harmonica lead, rhythm & blues combo playing original material.
Please note as Sports Bar is located inside Resorts World Casino it is strictly over 18s only and Challenge 25 is in operation.

 


 

SUNDAY 28TH JULY

 

B.D Lenz (USA) – performing from 12:30pm – 2.30pm at The World Bar

 

New Jersey native, guitarist B.D. Lenz, brings together the styles of Pat Metheny, Mike Stern and Stevie Ray Vaughan and has released 13 acclaimed albums featuring the likes of Mike Stern and Randy Brecker. He transitions from fleet and nimble to heavy and funky, maintaining interest throughout with an intriguing sonic palette.
The Delta Aces – performing from 3:30pm – 5:30pm in the Atrium

 

The Delta Aces are a Staffordshire-based blues duo. Guitarist/singer Steve Luff and harmonica player Paul Appleton perform authentic interpretations of classic blues numbers as well as their own heartfelt original compositions.
