Tobie began their professional career at 13, providing the vocal soundtracks to a popular BBC Drama and adverts for Bernard Matthews. Since then they have frequented prestigious venues across the world playing both Classical and Jazz.
Tobie was trained in Composition, Violin and Piano, initially at the Royal College of Music Junior Department and then the University of Leeds.
Determined to promote, diversify and modernise the uniquely European style Gypsy Jazz, in 2020, just months before the Coronavirus pandemic, Tobie founded
GJFLondon.
GJFLondon is a record label, festival and promoter dedicated to “fringe jazz,” – that which features bowed string instruments, Avant Garde styles and anything which does not have the current support of the commercial world.
Tobie has recorded several releases with their quartet ‘TME’, led the period orchestra the ‘Huddersfield Bach Collegium’ in its 2019-2020 season, played regular residency’s and hosted jam sessions across the capital, performed concerts at large venues including St Johns Smith Square, Westminster Cathedral and Leeds Town Hall, and headlined Bosnia’s ‘Mostar Gipsy Festival’. As well as a busy life performing, Tobie also produces, composes and arranges freelance.
