Identity

With BBC credits, a cross-European tour and JazzFM features under their belt, Tobie is an acomplished member of the British jazz scene.

 

Tobie was trained in Composition, Violin and Piano, initially at the Royal College of Music Junior Department and then the University of Leeds, where they gained a degree in Music and Philosophy.

Tobie’s recent sold-out concerts include at The Vortex Jazz Club with Antoine Boyer and as part of the Mozes Rosenberg Quartet at Crazy Coq’s Soho. Tobie has released several records, led the period orchestra the ‘Huddersfield Bach Collegium’ in its 2019-2020 season, played regular residency’s across the capital, performed at prestigious European venues including St Johns Smith Square, Ronnie Scott’s,  Jazzbina Sarajevo, Matt & Phreds Manchester and Leeds Town Hall, and headlined Bosnia’s ‘Mostar Gipsy Festival’.  Tobie is also a busy producer.

 

Tobies Gypsy Jazz Trio, ‘Skylark Trio’ has hosted the Sunday Jazz at Signature Brew since 2019 – this is a weekly gig featuring special guests from the UK jazz circuit, with Jam Sessions and special events. The trio have also held residencies at Silverstone Racecourse, Ruby’s Dalston, Cafe Cairo, Mr Foggs Society of Exploration and Bluecoats Tottenham.

By drawing on their accomplishment in classical composition Tobie writes distinctive, unique music for newly founded quartet ‘The Aviary’. The band is built of the quirky line up of Violin, Electric Archtop Guitar, Acoustic Rhythm Guitar and Double Bass, and as well as Tobie’s compositions – which are inspired by elements of free improvisation, bebop, modern classical and swing – play modern jazz and Gypsy Jazz standards.
