About

Our historic pub is located on St Vincent Street, which marks the British sea victory over the French off the coast of Spain in the sea battle of Cape St Vincent in 1797, one of the first battles of the Napoleonic Wars.

Built in 1924 by architect Andrew Balfour, the American-style building was once one of Glasgow’s many bank buildings. And, as you explore the spacious interiors with ornate corniced ceilings, wood panelling, and marble columns, you’ll feel a sense of the building’s former grandeur.

We often get asked about the story behind our pub’s name – it is said to derive from the travelling showmen who would tour the country with performing monkeys who would often play on a drum.
Music today in the form of trad sessions and solo spots, check out the pub for more details.
