SFJAZZ is one of the world’s leading presenters of jazz and related forms of music, with over 100 performances each year. We’re also a nonprofit organization which provides rich and rewarding jazz education programs for people of all ages. Founded in 1983 as a concert presenter under the name of Jazz in the City, SFJAZZ is now one of only two major year-round organizations in the country dedicated to cultivating jazz as a living art form with a rich past.
Today we’re one of the largest performing arts organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area, presenting events that enrich the cultural landscape and bring great artists here via the San Francisco Jazz Festival and the SFJAZZ Spring Season. We also encourage a vibrant local music scene with our SFJAZZ Summerfest and Hotplate programs. And we nurture young musicians and foster new fans with our year-round education programs, including Jazz in the Middle, SFJAZZ High School All-Stars, Family Matinees and Discover Jazz classes.
All told, more than one million people have attended SFJAZZ concerts and heard over 10,000 musicians grace our stages—including almost half the National Endowment for Arts (NEA) Jazz Masters. The world listens to SFJAZZ, for we celebrate jazz as a living art form built on a constantly evolving tradition.
