The North Wales Jazz Society is a client of the Arts Council of Wales, has been established for nineteen years and is now widely regarded as the strategic body for Jazz in North Wales.
Since its formation the society has promoted numerous Jazz events. NWJS activities have included presentations at venues in the Wrexham, North Wales Coast and Bangor areas, and concerts by many of the world’s leading Jazz musicians. Over the last ten years the NWJS has worked closely with Wrexham County Borough Council and the society organises a very successful jazz day during Wrexham Arts Festival. In conjunction with Flintshire County Council, the NWJS organizes a Jazz evening during Flintshire Festival. Also, the society organizes an event for the Ruthin Festival and concerts at Harlech Theatr.
During August 2000 the North Wales Jazz Society staged the first ever North Wales International Jazz Guitar Summer School/Festival, the biggest Jazz guitar event ever held in the U.K., which was extremely successful, and was succeeded by seven similar events which were widely regarded as the most exciting of their kind in the world.
The NWJS has expertise covering both performance and workshops and has numerous contacts in the art form of Jazz.
