Based in the heart of the former mining community of Easington Colliery, the centre provided community facilities for the miners and their families. Originally built in 1929 and rebuilt after a fire in 1935, the centre still remians open providing vital facilities for its community.
After many years of fundraising over £400,000 has been invested to improve the building, modernising facilites and services. Today the centre is still open for business and provides a great venue for an evenings entertainment.
Easington Social Welfare became a registered charity in July 2004 and continues to provide a facility for the community. It is managed by a committee of 12 trustees who care for the community and are intersted in long-term development of Easinton colliery.
