About

The new season of live performances has begun at Alexanderplatz.  The venue on Via Ostia, under the artistic direction of Eugenio Rubei, is ranked among the 100 most important jazz clubs in the world. Tuesday, October 22nd, marks the second event of the 41st season, featuring the “Oolong Espresso” project. This project, which debuted last March at the Blue Note in Shanghai and Beijing, was born from the meeting of pianist Strucky Yi and bassist Niccolò Faraci in China in 2019. Joining the two artists on stage were Gianluca Zanello on saxophone and Andrea Bruzzone on drums, for a live performance featuring original pieces that bridged contemporary and classical music, creating a musical bridge between East and West, much appreciated and applauded by the audience. “The new program focuses on the London and Paris music scenes,” explains the artistic director. After Geoff Westley, who opened the season on Monday the 21st with his “Solo Piano Project,” saxophonist Julian Siegel is expected from the United Kingdom on October 25th and 26th, and the duo Yakir Arbib and Conti Bilong from France on January 10th and 11th, 2025. National jazz stars will also be present: Enrico Pieranunzi will present his new album on January 2nd, 3rd, and 4th with his new quartet project, and Rita Marcotulli will perform on January 17th and 18th with Ares Tavolazzi and Fabio Zeppetella. Double bassist Riccardo Del Fra will have carte blanche on November 5th. Don’t miss the tribute to Charlie Haden on October 28th by drummer Israel Varela, featuring American saxophonist Ben Wendel and two double basses on stage with Federica Michisanti and Caterina Palazzi. And much more. “It will be the year of temperance, the triumph of substance over appearance, where content will emerge stronger than ever, just as has been the philosophy of our first 40 years. This is Alexanderplatz, where jazz is born every night,” concludes Eugenio Rubei.
