Sunday Sounds: Whispers of Dawn, Echoes of Dusk 10 August 2025 @ Burgh House

Burgh House presents Sunday Sounds , our recital series showcasing emerging musicians. This August, mezzo-soprano Sophie Davis and pianist Anna Reiley invite you on a musical journey through the arc of a single day. From the first light of dawn to the quiet glow of dusk, this programme weaves music and spoken word to reflect the natural rhythms of life and the chiming hours that mark the passage of time. As the year begins its descent toward autumn, let this recital offer a reflection on the fleeting beauty of each moment and the cycles that shape our days. Programme to be announced Sophie Davis Sophie Davis is an enthusiastic mezzo-soprano from London with a passion for classical performance. Having studied at Trinity Laban Conservatoire , she graduated with a first-class degree under the guidance of Sarah Pring. Sophie’s training has fostered a strong work ethic, purposeful commitment, and a deep understanding of musical disciplines, complemented by vocal and dramatic versatility. Her enthusiasm for Art Song is evident in her performances to date, including a finalist position in the Courtney Kenny Competition. Sophie furthered her artistic development under the tutelage of Sarah Tynan and, more recently, with Mark Oldfield. She is particularly inspired by performing thought-provoking contemporary classical works and enjoys curating recital programmes that integrate music with spoken text to create engaging and meaningful experiences for audiences. Recent performance highlights include a recital at St. Botolph without Aldgate, where Sophie performed Samhain, celebrating the Celtic festival and exploring the interplay of light and shade through the changing seasons. Prior to this, she presented Tell Me Your Story at Westminster Music Library, a programme celebrating female composers, including Libby Larsen’s Love After 1950. These performances demonstrated Sophie’s musical sensitivity, storytelling ability, and flair for connecting with diverse audiences. In addition to her performance work, Sophie has developed Forte Fitness, a bespoke fitness programme designed to help fellow musicians enhance their physical fitness and performance capabilities reflecting her holistic approach to the performing arts. Anna Reiley Anna Reiley is a piano accompanist from Hawai’i, now based in London. With a passion for collaborative music-making, Anna enjoys partnering with vocalists, instrumentalists, chamber ensembles, and choirs. Anna graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance from Concordia University, Irvine. During her undergraduate studies, she received comprehensive training in classical repertoire and piano technique under Dr. Hyunjoo Choi, and discovered her love for collaborative piano. After graduating, Anna gained valuable experience working full-time as a choral accompanist and organist, which led her to perform in prestigious halls such as Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall and Chicago Symphony Hall. In 2023, Anna relocated to London to further her musical education at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama , where she is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Piano Accompaniment. Under the guidance of her piano teacher, Eugene Asti, and other renowned faculty members, she continues to refine her craft and expand her repertoire. //
