Enrico Tomasso & Art Themen with Harry Ashworth Trio @ Twickenham Jazz Club
Enrico Tomasso & Art Themen with Harry Ashworth Trio At Twickenham Jazz Club’s Stage With great pleasure, we present two of the most loved and experienced musicians on the current Jazz scene with a young, brilliant and vibrant rhythm trio who are rapidly building a great reputation. Lovable, articulate and supremely talented Enrico is rightfully considered to be one of the UK’s top trumpet players. It is always a great privilege to welcome him to our club. Enrico started playing the trumpet at the age of 5. His father, the well-known clarinettist Ernie Tomasso, had observed his son’s natural musical instinct and took young Enrico to meet many of the American jazz greats. Enrico soaked up some of the brilliant music of the era with a natural enthusiasm. Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Hoagy Carmichael and many more. At the age of 7, young Enrico greeted Louis Armstrong arriving on a flight to the UK by playing ‘Basin Street Blues’ as he got off the plane. Louis was entranced by the little boy’s sound and it was the start of a lifelong friendship where Louis became both a mentor and family friend. Enrico’s international reputation includes recording and playing with Scott Hamilton, Anita O’Day, Ken Peplowski, John Dankworth and many more. He has a wealth of knowledge, multiple Jazz awards and incredible command of his beloved trumpet… but he has never played with the Harry Ashworth trio before! Art Themen One of the tiny handful of undeniably Veteran saxophonist Arthur Edward George Themen has been a beloved character of the British jazz scene for over 60 years. Fantastically exciting, playful and inventive, he famously combined his role as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with saxophone duties in the bands of Alexis Korner and Stan Tracey, among many others. Art is self-taught and consequently has his own unique sound, which he often plays on Ronnie Scott’s saxophone, of which he is the very proud owner. Described by The Observer as “ perfect jazz musicians”, he remains as brilliant and inimitable as ever… but he has never played with the Harry Ashworth Trio. Harry Ashworth Harry grew up in the London Borough of Sutton in a musical household, taking early inspiration from his father Steve, an experienced pianist and organist. Harry studied music at Oxford University, surviving the challenges of being a student during the pandemic, and moved back to London to begin a music career. Although still quite new to the jazz scene, Harry has quickly established a reputation as an inventive and versatile pianist and organist with a refined swing feel, a developed musical voice and the ability to make mature musical judgments. His influences include greats such as Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Bud Powell, as well as modern masters like Micah Thomas and Jeb Patton. He has performed at top UK venues like Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, The Vortex and Pizza Express Live, Soho, and with top UK jazz artists including Steve Fishwick, Anita Wardell, Simon Spillett, Alex Garnett, Alex Western-King and Fraser Smith, as well as rising stars Donovan Haffner, Tom Ridout, Alex Ridout and Sam Braysher. This will be a wonderful evening, which will illustrate that age is just a number and music has no boundaries. Lesley How to get the tickets? We hope you can join us!
