Description Formed in late 2023, The Magpies of Swing are an open collective of musicians playing classic swing music from Ellington, Fats, Ella etc. for swing dancers. With many members being both dancers and musicians they aim to bring the, too often separate, worlds of live jazz and dancing together. They play regularly for dancers every month at Swing Tyne in Summerhill and can also be found swinging out at other venues across Newcastle. Being an open collective, anyone can join and play with them and previous lines ups have included top talent from the Newcastle jazz scene as well as those just starting to branch out into swing and jazz.
