Identity

Julieta Iglesias is an Argentine pianist and arranger, classically trained with a distinctive style that blends expression and virtuosity. Born in Buenos Aires in 1985, she began piano studies in 1995 at the Alberto Williams Conservatoire. In 2001 she received the Lía Cimaglia Espinosa scholarship and the Santa Cecilia Medal, and has since performed in major venues across Argentina and throughout Europe, including the UK. She graduated from the Instituto Universitario Nacional del Arte, studying with Professor Aldo Antognazzi, and later taught piano there. In 2017 she completed a Bachelor of Musical Education at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires “Astor Piazzolla”. Her early career highlights include a mention at the Northlands Institute Piano Competition (2005) and a performance with the Vicente López Orchestra under Maestro Oscar Castro (2007). She was also invited to the 1st National Festival of Pianists in Mar del Plata (2009), performing at the Teatro Colón and delivering masterclasses at the Luis Gianneo Conservatoire. Julieta has worked closely with contemporary composers, premiering piano works by Mauro de María and releasing acclaimed recordings of his music (Vol. I in 2010; Vol. II premiered in 2013). She also undertook further study with Maestro Alberto Portugheis in London and France, performing with the London Tango Orchestra and as a soloist in London, Madrid, and Barcelona. In 2014 she launched her first European tour with support from the Argentine Government and released her debut album, combining classical music and tango. Since then, she has toured internationally, championing Argentine music across classical, tango, and fusion settings. Her work as an arranger has led into composition and recording projects, including the 2018 album Astor (a tribute to Astor Piazzolla), followed by releases during 2020–2021 including Piano in Quarantine, My Homages, Londoner, Simply Classical, and the classical-fusion project Londres suena a Serú (arrangements of songs by an iconic Argentine band from the 1980s). Her Homage to Piazzolla for two pianos is among her best-known arrangements, and she has performed premieres of new Piazzolla versions at events including the Echoes Festival in London. Recent appearances include performances in Paris for Latin American and Caribbean Week (2022), the Festival of Latin America in London (2022), and opening for Fabiana Cantilo at The Dome, Tufnell Park (2023). In 2024 she released the second volume of her Serú Girán tribute, supported by Help Musicians. Julieta continues her work as a classical pianist and arranger, promoting the music of Astor Piazzolla and Charly García internationally.
