AMBRE CIEL

NEW DEBUT ALBUM

‘STILL, THERE IS THE SEA’

Absolutely breathtaking.

– Somewhere Soul

Ambre Ciel is a Canadian composer, violinist, pianist, and vocalist, set to release her debut album ‘still, there is sea’ on June 6, 2025. She is a purveyor of dreamy, expansive, spacious pop music that draws influence from the contemporary classical influenced artists such as Agnes Obel, Patrick Watson, Sufjan Stevens and Thom Yorke.

“When I was composing this song at the piano, I immediately had an image of ocean waves in motion with sunlight reflecting on them like a mirror” says Ambre Ciel of eau miroir, the second single to be taken from her forthcoming album, ‘still there is the sea’. It’s an image that influenced the entire song, from the piano melody that ascends and descends like waves, to the lexical field of the lyrics and Ambre’s sublimely aqueous vocals, sung in her native French, mirrored in perfect harmony.

Released on 2 May on the Gondwana label, ‘eau miroir is a dreamy slice of neo-classical pop and another cinematic and perfectly crafted song from her debut album. Indeed, the album’s title came to Ambre when she realised that water was a recurring theme throughout the album. “Water can be thin and fragile yet constantly moving—sometimes swelling into something vast” says Ambre, “so I wanted to shift between instrumental and song with that same fluidity, while still keeping it cohesive.” She ads “It also reflects solitude and silence—where creating music feels like a doorway to a dreamlike underworld: deep, surreal, rich, and grounding.”

Still, There Is the Sea is a beautifully refined album that weaves string arrangements and other acoustic textures around Ambre’s ethereal voice. At once spacious, self-contained, fragile yet open and honest, her sound draws inspiration from contemporary classical and art-pop artists such as Agnes Obel, Patrick Watson, Sufjan Stevens, and Thom Yorke. Songs offer an escape from what’s going on in the world – the horrors of war and climate change – an attempt to create beauty, offer escapism and engage with the world in way that is meaningful.

eau miroir was co-produced with Pietro Amato (Patrick Watson, Arcade Fire) with orchestral arrangements assisted by Owen Pallett (Arcade Fire), who assisted throughout the album.
