Performing music from Wonderful World, his 13th studio album, virtuoso guitarist Chris Standring will be playing a selection of ageless Great American Songbook standards alongside his jazz trio and a full orchestra. Whilst you can hear echoes of George Benson and Grant Green in his deceptively simple style, Standring’s mellifluous sound is unmistakable.
Although she has built a reputation as an intuitive interpreter of other people’s songs, Jo Harrop would be the first to admit that she always lacked the confidence to reveal her own songs to the world. With no shows in her diary during lockdown, she started working on The Heart Wants, her much-anticipated debut as a singer / songwriter, which she will be performing for the first time.
With an unmistakable style that sounds like the missing link between Bill Evans, Brad Mehldau and Claude Debussy, pianist Paul Edis plays without a trace of bombast or affectation. He will be unveiling his achingly beautiful new album, The Still Point Of The Turning World, which has recently been played everywhere from BBC Radio 3 through to Jazz FM.
Finally, there will be music from the forthcoming Hampstead Jazz Club Presents British Standard Time album, a perfectly mixed cocktail of timeless songs from some of Britain’s finest vocalists including Queen Of Lovers Rock, Carroll Thompson and former Incognito frontman, Tony Momrelle.
