Eight steps lead down into Hanover’s heart chamber of jazz. The Jazz Club Hannover, founded over 50 years ago in a former coal cellar, is one of the most renowned music clubs in Europe.
Idyllically located on the Lindener Berg, here hip jazz musicians from all over the world present the best that this multi-faceted style of music has to offer – whether swing, modern, soul, reggae, Latin, free or funk jazz. Musically, the club keeps up with the times and always offers young musicians a stage and plenty of space to rehearse. At the same time, the small jazz cellar with its bright orange-red painted walls has retained its special, iconic charm and intimate concert atmosphere over the years. There is hardly any other location where you can experience the artists live so closely. Around 60 to 80 concerts take place in the famous “Orange Club” every year.
But the Jazz Club also occasionally climbs down the mountain and brings the sound of jazz into the city with its world-renowned open-air events: whether at the cultural summer in the Hanover region, at the summer nights in the garden theater of the Herrenhausen Gardens or at the Maschsee Festival. The absolute highlight is the “Enercity Swinging Hannover” jazz festival, which takes place every year on Ascension Day, where up to 50,000 fans celebrate the “UNESCO City of Music” in front of the New Town Hall.
