ANDREW CLEYNDERT’S “SUPERBAND” @ Fleet Jazz Club
feat. GEORGIA VAN ETTEN Bassist Andrew Cleyndert returns to Fleet Jazz Club with a very special band featuring the exceptional talents of Darren Beckett (drums), Paul Booth (tenor and soprano saxophones), Jim Watson (piano), and the virtuosic vocalist Georgia Van Etten – truly a SUPERBAND. This group was originally formed for a special concert at the Chichester International Film Festival celebrating the music of Quincy Jones, one of the world’s most celebrated musicians, arrangers, composers and producers. Tonight’s programme draws partly from that repertoire, alongside a jazz-influenced exploration of the rich melodies and harmonies of Brazilian music. Featuring: Andrew Cleyndert needs little introduction to jazz audiences. Across a distinguished career spanning four-and-a-half decades, he has established himself as one of the UK’s premier jazz bassists. In addition to his work as a performer, he has produced over fifty albums on his own label and has increasingly been heard as a bandleader in his own right. His extensive credits reflect the high regard in which he is held throughout the jazz world. A key element of this project is the boundary-defying vocalist Georgia Van Etten. Originally from Australia, she was fronting large soul bands at the age of 14 and has since appeared at major international festivals including Porretta Soul Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Falls Festival, Raadpop and The Long Road, as well as headlining London’s Omeara. Irish-born drummer Darren Beckett moved to New York at 18, quickly establishing himself as a musician of exceptional talent. He went on to tour internationally for nine years with Madeleine Peyroux and has performed with artists including Brandon Flowers, Van Morrison and Lee Konitz. Now back in the UK, he is a highly sought-after jazz and studio drummer, also working with Ronnie Wood and Nick Cave. Pianist Jim Watson is one of the leading players on today’s scene, with recording and performance credits including Kurt Elling, Manu Katché and Van Morrison. A two-time British Jazz Award winner, his critically acclaimed recent album Calling You Home is out now on ECN Records. Paul Booth is a phenomenal multi-instrumentalist whose versatility has made him a first-choice collaborator for many major artists. His credits include The Eagles, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, Carlos Santana, Van Morrison, The Allman Brothers Band, Bonnie Raitt, Chaka Khan, Kylie Minogue, Jamiroquai, Gregory Porter, Barry Manilow, Warren Haynes, Eddie Henderson, Geoffrey Keezer and many others.
